I am planning an improvised performance.
Last week I walked the great North run and collected money for charity which I talked about in my blog on September 15th 2018.
I have some incredible photos that were taken by the official photographers on the day.
Very unusual as there were not many people there as I was at the back, wearing a costume and pushing a push chair.
I feel I want this piece to be personal.
I would like to wear the Wonder woman costume, which was in context for the run, but raising questions in the performance.
The scene is a living room. In the chair is a childhood teddy.
Teddy is sitting watching television.
‘Wonder woman’ comes home.
Teddy doesn’t speak.
The conversation is one sided.
My costume is nostalgic of an old idea of Female empowerment.
Teddy is my ‘husband’ a safe and comforting.
My husband used to make war figures as a child. His mother brought the old box with the pieces in. He was going to throw it away.
I felt it was a great symbol of a a stereotypical boys hobby.
I feel the links to war and a man’s influence growing up is contained here.
I have been playing about with these themes. Now I need some suggestions that can be used in the actual performance. This is prompting me to narrow down my ideas for suggestions. So I can ask my audience first something I can work with.
I will produce some paintings, these will be based on the photos.
