Greyson Perry’s teddy is God.

I came to the idea that Wonder Woman was a comfort blanket in regards to the fantasy character having been created in World War II to fight the nazi’s.
Shortly after I saw a video clip of Greyson Perry who was being interviewed on the ITV program ‘This morning’. I loved that he said he didn’t believe in religion so he wanted to invent his own. He had brought his childhood teddy bear and said it was a deity. That actually it was god, because like god he was an imaginary person that he went to for comfort.
Last year I did a project on the religious theme, for the Unorthodox brief. Though in the vein of the unorthodox it could have been seen as offensive.
I thought Greyson Perry’s approach with the bear was beautifully done. To make such a bold statement in such a subtle way.
This is the kind of simplicity in my art work and it’s visual language that I would like to achieve.
