Francisco Goya

The particularly horrendous and spectacular painting ‘Saturn devours his son’ was painted by Francisco Goya in 1823, it conveys a deep inner disturbance. This art work was painted on his house wall and in a series that where new his ‘ Black’
paintings.
Goya was going through his final decline in illness and mental break down.
For me it shows the absolute horrors in the world. It feels like a life time of trying to fathom the feeling of uselessness, when people are in horrendous situations. There’s guilt at not doing anything and feelings of greif.
The anguish of losing someone I loved was all consuming for years.
Looking at Goya painting, I compare it to my own practice and when wondering about the dark aspect of making art work about death. After making a video and going there emotionally. I am feeling a lighter side to my exploration of death. The comforting in my situation and the use of wonder woman.
A painting is coming to mind.
