I am loving Jean Michel Basquiat paintings. His self-portrait is so beautiful rich in colour full stop I was drawn to it after looking at ideas about painting my face or body in its various degrees of anatomy. As in a series of self portraits possibly the first one with me as I am, then the next one as my body with the skin removed seen Only the muscles. Then possibly the Skellington or the spinal cord with the brain and then finally maybe just nothing to suggest that one has departed this life. I like how John Michel Basquiat would put his various influences into his painting full stop references from artists from black history full stop he said his work why’s a springboard to deeper truths about the individual full stop she was highly influenced by black history and created a portrait of himself based on his identification with his history culturally and personally.

Now with further research into Jean Michelle vasquez. In a documentary Jean Michel Basquiat s friend looked at artist caravaggio paintings when they were young. They discussed that carrying his sword was very gangster, because to carry one meant that you wood use it. I also really liked it when he said that they loved the Crown in one of caravaggio’s paintings because it was symbolic of being worthy when used in graffiti.
- I love the idea of putting the crowd into my painting. And possibly some kind of blade representing the sword. Possibly linking some how to the cut-throat razor resembling the narcissist full stop
The crown would represent the brushing up of the ego I’ve talked about already.
The crown naturally falling through the picture maybe? Or possibly just in the painting or some of them.
